Hockey World Cup 2002 coin card expensive?

I have just started buying coin cards early this year 2012. This post is about a coin card named : "2002 Malaysia 10th Men's Hockey World Cup". This is also my post in giving it a try at lunaticg Blogtalk: Malaysia coin card challenge. Okay, my first sight of this coin was when I saw a seller selling it through Facebook for RM150 a piece. My first reaction is, wow that is a high price for a coin card!

One of the most bewildering question for me is why is the Hockey World Cup 2002 coin card being so expensive? I have asked some of the seller in KHD2 about the price in Peninsular Malaysia and most of them say this coin card is retailing RM100-RM150.

Not satisfied with that answer, I searched through E-bay Malaysia and found out not too many are even selling this coin card. If you are lucky the price is indeed high. for example:

2002 Malaysia 10th Men's Hockey World Cup Coin

RM192.24 for a coin card? Wow this is expensive! Why? Some say it is rare, how do one know which coin card is rare? Help me. If you have the answer please leave your comment.

Being a curious person, I began searching for this coin card whenever I went to my usual "banknotes hunting" in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. And the result; none of them are selling this coin card. I even asked for this banknote at Trigo and Mr. Dickson Niew's shop when I was there, but they also don't have any for sale.

Later, I chatted with a friend who is somewhat a newbie in this hobby than I am, and during our conversation he mentioned that he once bought this Hockey coin card for only RM50/pcs in Kompleks Karamunsing, KK. I answered "What Karamunsing? Since when karamunsing got selling old banknotes or coin?" I only knew Wisma merdeka and Star City.

Together with my friend Paul Simbaku, we tracked down this so-called shop and true as it is told, we found it selling for RM50 a piece.

Price = RM50, Satisfaction = Priceless

Maybe you can find it much cheaper at you place, but finding one that cheap after searching high and low for it does make my day. And to find it at the least expected location only makes it more intriguing. That just shows sometimes the price for one coin card only depends on what the seller considered good enough profit for him without taking into consideration the retail price for it. And this is the moment that many collectors are dreaming of when going for coin or banknotes hunting trip.

And this coin card will remain in my collection for a long time since getting it is such a journey.

Cheers and hopefully this post is somewhat worth reading about this particular coin card.

Mr Danny Banknotes reporting from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah . Haha

Roger and out.
